Fuel Poverty Bill Fails in Parliament
Some Brits may be facing fuel poverty after a bill designed to tackle the issue failed to make it through Parliament.
Fuel poverty is when a household is unable to keep their home adequately warm and needs to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel. The figure does not take into account the actual spend on fuel by the household. Adequately warm refers the main living room being heated to 21 degrees C and 18 degrees C for all other occupied rooms during daylight hours. ‘Fuel’ refers not just to heating rooms – it also includes hot water, cooling, lights and appliances.
